Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I took the role of being the producer and director and while producing this film teaser trailer continued to use the conventions of a teaser trailer, the trailer is 76seconds long and made up of 37 clips which vary from long to short, out of the 37 clips around 5 clips have narrative in them alongside the backing track used, as producer I put my opinion across to our editor that we should have fade in and fade out transition between each clip to make the clips to quicken the pace of the trailer and also it create suspense right away by fading in and out of black instead of cutting between shots. As the film goes along there are no captions as the clips are quite self-explanatory, however towards the end narrative indicators have been added to tell the audience which direction the film is going in.

For my poster I had looked at various different pictures for inspiration, the posters that had stood out to me the most are ‘Kidulthood’ and ‘Adulthood’ considering that they are both British dramas I thought these to posters would be perfect to duplicate.
These are examples:

As you can see these posters are simple, but yet they stand out and this is the sort of poster I tried to create.

To edit my poster i have used Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 which is easy and straight forward to use, i was able to change effects of the image, the sizing, erase parts that i did not want and also put in other things onto the image.
This is the finishing product.

I found that designing my poster was the easiest task, I took an image from the ‘motherhood’ photo-shoot that me and my group had set-up where the main character of the trailer is shown face on with her buggy which works well and is denotative of the title given to the film ‘Motherhood’. I have specifically chosen a black and white for the typography on the image because it is basic and stands out on the screen, I have used a text hierarchy so that everything on the image is easily recognized and in organized importance. I Have put the name of the actors in small print in the credits, however i have not advertised the release date or age restriction on it.

The name of my magazine was duplicated from one of my favorite magazine's which is usually influenced by a lot of British Film Drama actors and actress'. I also thought that the colour scheme of this magazine will brighten up the image a bit.

This is my poster image, although the colour scheme is the same as the image above, i have not copied every feature, i made sure that i put my own interpretations in to it.

2.) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The main aim of our teaser trailer, poster and website was to reach out to our target audience of 'adolescents and the older generation both male and female' by representing British Drama in a way people can relate to and be interested in. Even though we were trying to reach out to a specific crowd of people we still had to concentrate on the most important concept of the film which is motherhood, prostitution and struggle.

Throughout our trailer we had decided to use simple typography, so we chose white on black with clear text

By using the same typography in all promotional pieces, it gives the audience a chance to link these altogether giving a good sense of identification for the full promotional package.

After doing my research about British Drama's i can see that the protagonist is always the main focus of the audiences attention, through the promotional package our protagonist is always center and the main focus. This again links all three promotional aspects up and homogeny for the promotions as a whole.

Overall, we felt that the combination of our main product and ancillary tasks was very effective at creating a sense of branding and homogeny this is because we ensured that there was continuity in every promotional aspect, one  example is the protagonist headscarf, in the trailer, poster and magazine this icon is used.

3.) What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

A member of my group had posted our trailer to twitter, so that we were able to get enough audience research back.

4.) How did you use media technologies in the contrsution and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Motherhood Trailer- Finishing Product

"MOTHERHOOD" Magazine and Poster

This is my advertisement for "Motherhood" film, it was taken during a motherhood photoshoot, where by Jade Bare had modelled as the main character. This photographed was taken in an underpass by bromley-by bow station, this is also where we had filmed for a clip of our trailer.
I used Adobe Photoshop CS6 to create my poster, by using an image as a background and adding text and effect.

Music Permission and update

My group and I emailed Atlantic Records to seek permission to use The Streets music who are signed to their label.

While filming my group and i were unable to stick to what we had first planned to do in our storyboard therefore we had to improvise and come up with new ideas.
We were unable to film at the prison so therefore we changed this clip to a time lapse

  • Illegal substances
  • Weapons
  • Parties
  • Raves
  • Sex
  • Murders
  • Shootings
  • Relationships
  • Social Groups
  • Gangs

British Dramas are usually influenced by American films, they play on the area code wars that exist in parts of america.

Work Divisions- Film Director

My role in the making of our film trailer is the film director

My roles and responsibilities as the director are:

  • Overseeing the shooting of scenes
  • Assembling the film
  • Responsible for the pictures final appearance
  • Make sure everybody knows what they are doing
  • Making sure that every shot we get is correct.
  • A director works at the center of film production, but is inextricably linked with other people to get the job done.

PITCH FEEDBACK

Sofia, Jade and i had to deliver a pitch for our ideas and structure of our film. From the feedback that we had received from our peers we have come to the conclusion that our film idea is a good one and we carry on with the making a planned.

However taking the feedback on board we have to make sure that our film is different and stands out from other British Drama films, also for our posters we need to make sure that the main character is shown and also that it gives off a clear overview of the film.

TRAILER ANALYSIS - MEDIA LANGUAGE

This trailer is 2 minutes and 9 seconds long, this is made up of 56 clips, the transition between each clip fades out then fades intp the next clip. Each clip is roughly around 30seconds but if varies, when logos are shown on black backgrounds the timing of clip is longer giving the viewers a chance to read and understand.

The institutional information is spread out along the trailer. they dont want to give to much away at the start so they spread it out along the timeline.
During the middle of the trailer, they advertise the realase date and also the website in which viewers can find extra information from.
The trailer includes voice overs and voiceclips of what the actors say in the film, this talks the viewers through the film, also the voiceover that is used builds up tension they have used a deep voice which may have conotations of beign serious and dangerous. The voiceclips that compliments the clips of the film shown in the trailer show the viewer what is happening in the film.

The typograhy of the film title goes with the theme of the film, the writin is robot like, the relevance of this is huge because it goes with the theme of the film, it shows the viewers what the film is going to be about and it is also a trademark.

They use slow motion effects on main characters, so that the viewers can have a clearer vision and also it makes a bigger impact, they yse slow motion effect on clips that show the main characters and also clips that show something to do with battling.

THE SHINING POSTER ANALYSIS

The Shining Analysis

TRAILER ANALYSIS- NARRATIVE :

I have chosen to analyse 4.3.2.1 for my narrative analysis, this is because it is of a british crime and thriller genre and it has a similar concept as to what i am thinking of doing for my film trailer.

4.3.2.1 is a British crime thriller film directed by Noel Clarke and Mark Davis, released 2 June 2010

Narrative Aspects
From the trailer, the film seems very hard to keep track and actually understand the story line, the story doesn't actually flow in order and hasn't got a specific sequence to it.
This film doesn't have a main protagonist so therefore it is hard for the audience to sympathize or relate to any of the characters, the trailer swerves from one story to the next which doesn't make the film clear. It may come across as confusing, therefore some people may not be that interested in viewing it, but on the other hand it may leave viewers wanting to understand and intrigued. The narrative of this film is not effective enough it doesn't show any form of a story line.

TRAILER GENRE ANALYSIS: THE POSSESSION

1.)The genre of this movie is horror, this film genre is based on getting a negative but emotional reaction from viewers by playing with the viewers fears and emotions. They often feature scenes that frighten and alarmed, horror films often use supernatural and spiritual themes. However, this could over lap with the thriller, supernatural and also fantasy themes. 2.)The main character is horror movies are often very dominant and controlling, whether they are seen or not. The Possession as a horror film uses terror as an unknown force, for example in this film they have used a little girl as a protagonist character who is said to be possessed by a demon, one of the stock characters who isn't seen in the film (the demon) is dominant and controlling and plays one of the biggest rolls in the whole film. 3.)This trailer gives a strong insight into what happens throughout the film and a basis of what the film is about, the beginning shows a normal broken family, and two girls spending time with their father, this may be just an ordinary week for them, the middle of the trailer begins to show the what the film is actually about. Throughout the trailer they have quick shots of all the main parts of the movie so the audience can understand more, a sinister soundtrack plays as well as narrative from the actors. The themes of this trailer are typical for horror movie, it comes across dark and mysterious, the low lighting of this trailer gives an unsettling feeling. The trailer shows violence, obsession and a unsettled atmosphere.
